I like to read world news….a lot. In fact, I probably know more about what’s happening in Syria than in my own neighborhood half the time. There’s something adventurous about other countries, languages and cultures that fascinates me. It’s important to me to think from a global perspective.

From time to time, I’ll share an article I’ve read that highlights bigoted banter from people in the spotlight and make an editorial comment on the article. My intent is to comment on what is being said in the article and give my opinion. My biggest pet peeve is when someone doesn’t read the article but rather takes my words and responds with ignorance and insults…personal insults to me that have nothing to do with what I said or the article itself.

Politics, immigration, taxes, healthcare, foreign aid, war, and Donald Trump tend to cause these types of reactions from people. But I didn’t back down to someone who made a personal insult to my character in their response. I responded that they were not allowed to insult me in my home – my space – my Facebook page. In the end, I probably reacted a little quickly, and this person didn’t truly mean harm, but I still don’t think it’s okay how he reacted to MY opinion on a news story on MY page. I felt that my character was misconstrued.

I live life as if it’s my right to say what I want and do what I want as long as it doesn’t harm others (no insult slinging), and if someone else doesn’t like it, they can UNFOLLOW.

What’s the purpose of this blog post? Do what you want to do with your life, and don’t let others dictate your dreams for you. As Dr. Seuss said, “Those who mind don’t matter, and those who matter don’t mind.” Keep being you!
