Facebook now allows you to use video as your profile picture. What a fun idea! More and more people are having to quickly change their attention spans with all that’s thrown at them, and you want yours to be noticed, right? Not many people have caught on yet to make these meaningful, so go ahead and try something.

You only get 7 seconds, so what is most important?

  • Include a web address on the video that sends people to opt into your latest freebie or join your Facebook group.
  • Add some catchy music to your video.
  • Is your profile picture somewhere in the video? People need to recognize your profile when you post comments, and you are prompted to select one of the frames from your video to choose at your static photo when the video isn’t playing. Make it your normal profile pic.
  • Your video will only run on your page, and the sound begins when someone clicks on it.
  • Have a caption on the video description for people to see once they click it, such as a link to follow, or a short bio of what you do. You’ll have to add this after it’s posted on Facebook. Just click on your profile video to open up the post, then click EDIT.

What are some ideas for short videos?

  • Include a quick commercial for a program you are promoting.
  • Ask people to join your fantastic Facebook group!
  • Invite someone to do a challenge with you. Give them an easy way to sign up.
  • Ask a question people feel compelled to answer. Encourage them to comment on the video.
  • Invite someone to an event. Put the details in the post or direct them to a URL to get info.
  • Tell a riddle. Ask them to sign up for the answer.

Even if you don’t have something clever to put up there yet, at least try something, anything. Just going through the motions to add a video will inspire you to think of something, and when you do, come back to it.
